Ride Reports
Elender Cove and Corkscrew Hill
Sunlit lanes led us to Elender Cove to meet the campers, with swims and cliff-top wandering setting a summery mood. We finished with the steep, twisty Corkscrew Hill—enjoyed by most, declined by two—before an easy run home.
Staverton Bridge via Colston lanes
On a mild, unhurried evening we welcomed new juniors Craig and Darren Nichols and meandered via Colston Road to Staverton Bridge, lingering by the river; Luke and Budgie fancied a swim but settled for enthusiastic stone-skimming before heading back through Abham and Caddaford.
Lustleigh Cleave and Becky Falls
Fearing barbed wire and minefields on the Lustleigh railway path, we instead found easy going before a hot, off‑road push through Lustleigh Cleave to Becky Falls and Hound Tor; Brett’s derailleur failure and a precarious tree‑trunk crossing provided the day’s drama.
Chalk Ford and Scoriton rough track
With summer holidays thinning the ranks, a dry evening ride delivered classic Dartmoor: steady climb to Lud Gate, wide views and the hidden gem of Chalk Ford, then a long, stony descent to Scoriton that rattled every bike before a quiet roll back to Buckfastleigh.
Dales, Pennines & Southern Scotland 1987 12
From hot trains to thunder, limestone and grey moors, this tour rode on resourcefulness and dry humour. A snapped crank and broken forks were saved at Settle Cycles; a day of lashing rain to Alston had us pedalling downhill before drying by a fire that melted trainers. Best of all, we slipped into Scotland through a simple gate on Windy Gyle.
