Ride Reports
Totnes
Planned as a cautious outing for Henry’s first ride, the day grew in confidence to Totnes and back, with a relaxed stop at the Terrace coffee shop (David opting for chicken-and-apricot pie). Tao alone tackled ‘puncture alley’ and punctured but fixed it quickly. Henry finished strongly.
Games evening
A relaxed club social: a games evening where the usual mix of computer games and DVDs kept everyone entertained, a simple night of familiar favourites and easy company.
Cross Furzes
Faced with biting cold and several riders unwell, the ride was recast as a social. Tao and Joe still represented the club with a brief spin to Cross Furzes via Buckfast, a small but cheering outing that saved the morning.
Games evening
A low-key games evening, with the usual mix of computer games and DVDs keeping everyone occupied.
Spitchwick
A crisp winter Dartmoor ride to Spitchwick mixed light-hearted Frisbee on the common, carefully avoiding the river and a passing canoe club, with a long grind to Buckland that tested the youngsters. The return via Ashburton was far kinder for Sol and Keir than last time.
Music quiz
A music quiz that began with Oliver’s team racing ahead on the film and TV theme rounds finished with Gavin’s team pulling level. The early theme supremacy and the late fightback gave the night its edge.
Fermoy's Garden Centre, Ipplepen
On a crisp winter ride we sped to refreshments at Fermoys, then let the youngsters choose: the gentle Knowle track followed by the formidable Beaston, which delivered. Keir’s muddy spill and newcomer Peter’s puncture added colour, though he otherwise flew up the hills.
Games evening
A relaxed games evening built around multiplayer PC battles and plenty of refreshments; familiar, good-humoured rivalry kept everyone engaged. Nothing dramatic, just easy company and quick‑fire matches.
Ashburton
Joe’s need for new gloves set our course to Ashburton; his twenty minutes choosing let Keir buy an energy drink that went from suspect to coveted for Sol and Keir as we rode. After the climb from River Dart Country Park, Mother’s Day prompted a shorter return via Hembury Woods’ lower track.
Games evening
A relaxed games evening with the usual mix of multi‑player PC games and refreshments, a straightforward social that kept spirits up and offered a chance to unwind together.
Dartmeet
With Peter in lively form we took on an ambitious loop via Holne and Venford Reservoir, crossing the Dart by the stepping stones before tackling the demanding Dartmeet hill. A spirited descent down Dr Blackall's Drive sealed the ride, after which Peter admitted he needed a long rest.
Games evening
A relaxed finale to the season, the games evening served up the familiar mix of multi-player PC games and refreshments, an easy close to the club’s social calendar.
