With just Dennis and Josh out with Michael, this sunny summer ride headed to Shipley Bridge for a cooling play in the River Avon, then ran past the dam into an exhilarating descent to Cross Furzes.

We reversed the usual route to Spitchwick, opening with the climb of Ausewell Hill from Ashburton, threading Buckland-in-the-Moor and then plunging down the steep descent to Spitchwick, before returning quietly through Hembury Woods.

With just three out, we enjoyed a gentle evening ride along Colston Road to Staverton, pausing for a game of Frisbee in the park before heading back via Caddaford. A simple, companionable outing.

A quiet car-assisted outing on the Plym Valley cycle path turned into a lively off-road adventure when a detour by the Meavey and along the Plym delivered the day’s best riding and a cooling paddle. The return took longer than planned as Joe missed a turning and had to chase back before a late Pizza Hut refuel.

With new suspension forks, John Stuart urged an off‑road evening to Landscove, ticking off rough tracks and fields. At an overgrown path of nettles and brambles he shot into the tunnel while the rest hesitated; forced to ride back, we instead skirted it and headed home via Green Lane.

On a perfect summer morning, the day belonged to Jaden and his skip-rescued new bike, which carried him briskly to the Avon Dam. The highlight was his first fast descent from Water Oak Corner to Cross Furzes, with a brief paddle at the reservoir to cool his feet.
