Ride Reports
Cinema: The Day the Earth Stood Still
An easy-going social saw us at Vue Plymouth for The Day the Earth Stood Still, a sci‑fi remake in which an alien visitor delivers a stark warning to humanity. Strong effects and the apocalyptic theme made for an excellent evening and plenty to talk about on the way home.
Board Games
We gathered to try Ashley’s new Lord of the Rings board game; after a hesitant start while we puzzled out the rules, teamwork brought a tense finale and a narrow victory over Sauron.
South Brent
Olly’s new Trek stole the show on a straightforward ride to South Brent, with the Marley Head track mercifully firm rather than muddy. With no appetite for an extension, we rolled back via Rattery.
Cinema: Yes Man
We opted for a cinema trip, settling on Yes Man, Jim Carrey’s breezy comedy about saying yes to everything and the chaos that follows. Light and upbeat, it proved sufficiently entertaining, giving us a relaxed evening and plenty of laughs.
Badminton
Trying a new venue at Coombeshead School, Newton Abbot, we were impressed by the facilities and quickly settled into play. With everyone up to the standard, rallies were sharp and the matches excellent throughout.
Games evening
A relaxed games night at Crofters, with computer games the draw. Ash had to leave early, leaving Zac and Michael to round things off with the superb new Little Big Planet.
Badminton
With parents worried about ice, the morning’s ride was switched to a sports social: bikes traded for rackets and a booked badminton session in Ivybridge that everyone enjoyed. A quick change that kept everyone safe without losing the day.
Games evening
A brief note records an enjoyable social at Crofters, with computer games once again providing the entertainment.
Snowballing
With ice around, we cancelled the morning ride for safety and held a snowball social at Venford Reservoir instead, where the snow was waist-deep in places—turning a planned outing into a memorable winter gathering.
Games evening
The report is very brief: an enjoyable social at Crofters where computer games provided the entertainment once again.
Kings Wood
A return to decent weather made for an easy morning of local exploring, taking us up towards Cross Furzes and down through Kings Wood, where we noted side tracks to try another day. We even met two deer near Hapstead and, for once, had no punctures.
Pool
A relaxed social evening centred on the pool tables in Plymouth, with a string of doubles games and light‑hearted competition.
