Ride Reports
Nurston Hill
Only Callum joined Ash and Michael for our final evening ride: a dry, dark climb up Nurston Hill, across to Eden Farm and back via Dean Hill, finishing at 8.28 under a full moon. The day ended with several games of Modern Warfare 3 on the PC network.
Exeter Ship Canal
A sunny, car-assisted run along the Exe estuary and Exeter Ship Canal to Exeter Quayside was crowned by a stop at the Welcome Café, with excellent cakes and drinks. A short diversion over steps and a failed group photo after a flat camera battery added their own flavour before a brisk return to Starcross.
Movie quiz and computer games
On a very wet evening, our first social of the season mixed two hours of Minecraft for Jack and Will with a movie quiz of obscure stills—complicated by YouTube flashing the film titles. Jack edged the win in the end, helped by a slight scoring advantage from Michael.
Computer games
With the Rogers family away, the evening became a quiet club social as Jack and Ash played Minecraft on the PC network — a simple, collaborative detour from riding.
Computer games
A quiet social evening centred on Minecraft, broken by a quick trip to Tesco at Lee Mill for refreshments before returning for more games.
Computer games
With no appetite for a ride, we held a games evening: Minecraft to start, then Supreme Commander. We enjoyed the latter despite a humbling defeat by a Balanced AI, and Will came away keen to play it again.
Holne
A steady ride to Holne via Scoriton and Michelcombe turned playful with Frisbee at Holne Park before a timely café stop kept us dry in a passing shower. The only regret came on Hembury hill, where nobody took the track and George revealed—too late—he’d hoped for off‑road.
Badminton: Ashburton and computer games
An easygoing social evening on two courts at Ashmoor Leisure Centre: plenty of rallies and George learned to serve properly with help from Michael. Back at Crofters we wound down with Supreme Commander and Minecraft until closing.
Colston Road
A planned ride to Dartington and Totnes was cut short by heavy showers on Colston Road; despite Michael urging a restart, cold youngsters forced a turn back before Colston Farm. The rain stopped as we reached Crofters, and the morning became a Supreme Commander session.
Supreme Commander
After a warm-up on Halo we switched to the PC network for an epic Supreme Commander battle against a Balanced AI and won. The moment of the night was Will launching a nuclear strike on his ally George without warning, provoking as much laughter as disbelief.
Dartington
A sunny, friendly ride welcoming new rider Morgan, marked by a quiet two minutes’ silence for Remembrance. Camaraderie showed when Michael bought a cake for cashless Jack to share—an outing that felt like old times.
Music quiz
A lively music quiz set the tone: Ash and George swept the movie, games and TV themes before John decisively took the hits from the last 40 years. We wound down with Minecraft and Supreme Commander, and the late finish said it all.
