Ride Reports
Holne
Showers delayed the start, giving Ash time to fit new off-road tyres, and we rode via Scoriton to Holne café for parsnip-and-curry soup. Then to Hembury Woods, where the slalom left Ash plastered in mud to John’s amusement, rounding off a short, lively morning.
Badminton: Ivybridge
The evening badminton at Ivybridge Leisure Centre came to life when Gavin joined, lifting the pace and producing some very energetic games; with the sides mixed throughout, the play stayed lively and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Dartington Hall
A brisk morning spin to the Dartington Hall estate set the tone, with everyone climbing strongly. Frugality ruled at the café—Michael, having forgotten his chocolate box, settled for a takeaway 75p KitKat—and a timely warning about riding with earphones rounded off the morning.
Computer games
A relaxed evening of PC gaming kept everyone happy to closing time, rounded off with a spirited multiplayer session of Modern Warfare 3 that had the whole group playing together.
Hockmoor Head
A cold, sunny start became an improvised morning: a detour via Buckfast and Hockmoor Head to find warmer gloves, then the ride was cut short by Callum’s tiredness, leaving Jack and Ash to dash up to Cross Furzes while the rest returned to Crofters.
Games evening
After a brief debate, we stayed in for a low-key games night: Will and Michael beat two normal computer enemies in Supreme Commander, while John took a different tack, watching videos of the comedy series Life is Too Short.
Badminton: Ashburton, videos & games
Below-freezing weather scrapped the planned ride, but a lively badminton social at Ashmoor Leisure Centre followed; Gavin joined soon after arrival and the play across three courts was strong, before the day wound down with videos and games.
Games evening
Everyone opted to stay in for another full session of computer games on the PC network, a relaxed and sociable evening built around shared screens.
Belford Mill
On a sunny morning, with Michael recovering and leading by car, we rode to Ashburton and on to Belford Mill, pleased to find the once churned‑up woods track properly tidied and fun despite the mud. George’s attempted jump ended in a harmless spill before we headed home.
Games evening
A planned badminton session fell through when the only available court was at 8pm in Paignton, so we switched to a games evening. Halo, Minecraft and Modern Warfare 3 kept us going until the club closed at 10.10.
South Brent
South Brent was the backdrop to a ride driven by Lawrence’s single‑minded pursuit of a frozen pizza, as he attacked the climbs in ten‑second bursts inspired by a Horizon programme. A muddy slide on Nurston hill provided the day’s only mishap before we headed home.
Games evening
Provisional Easter Tour plans were agreed before Modern Warfare 3 and a closing music quiz, both enlivened by a new PC-to-AV link that made the music strikingly clear.
