Ride Reports
Computer games and superstore trip
Relentless rain, worsening by 7pm, meant the evening ride was cancelled; instead we had a simple social, punctuated by a visit to the local supermarket.
Badminton: Ashburton
Once again, heavy rain forced us to abandon the planned evening ride, so we held a low-key badminton social at Ashmoor instead.
TV Night: Agents of Shield
We gathered in the Crofters clubroom for a quiet Cinema Night, continuing our run through Agents of Shield season 2. The usual drinks and snacks and shared anticipation for the next episode gave the evening its simple appeal.
Combe
An evening spin to Combe became memorable for the eerie drone drifting from the climb to Cross Furzes: a didgeridoo performance at a new event called âThe Gatheringâ. After a burst of applause from the crowd, we quickened our pace and slipped away down Wallaford hill to Buckfastleigh.
Badminton: Ashburton
A wet morning saw us abandon the planned ride and switch to badminton at Ashmoor Leisure Centre in Ashburton, a simple indoor detour that saved the day.
Ashburton
An easy run towards Holne Bridge turned into a mild adventure when we chose the River DartâHolne Woods route: the games roomâs Air Hockey had no puck, and a missed turn sent us onto a nettle-choked, rerouted path whose âshortcutâ took twice as long. We rolled back via Hembury for a brief PC-fix social.
Widecombe in the Moor
A summer-warm moorland ride to Widecombe set the tone, with AA signs everywhere for Widecombe Fairâonly preparations for Tuesday. Lunch plans foundered at the Greenâs inflated prices, so we decamped to the Wayside cafĂ© before a quiet run home via Hembury Woods.
TV night: Agents of Shield
This weekâs invite-only Cinema Night rewarded last weekendâs riders with a relaxed screening of two episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. at the Crofters clubroom. A low-key, sociable pause that kept the club spirit going between rides.
Sainsburys: Plymouth and Blackadder
Heavy rain from 7.15pm cancelled the ride, so we switched to a low-key social: a visit to the Sainsburys Superstore in Plymouth, then a Blackadder video. A wet evening, but lifted by classic comedy.
Holne
Planned as an easy introduction for new member Nat, the ride to Holne turned into a confident debut, with café snacks polished off by noon. We kept the return short, pausing at the River Dart for a go on the snake slide and briefly while George rode back for his water bottle.
Cinema: Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials
Open to last weekendâs riders, our cinema night at Vue Plymouth saw Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials deliver a tense follow-on: the Gladers leave the maze for the Scorch, hunted by WCKD and Cranks across a ruined worldâa great evening for us.
Staverton
With Dillan keen to pack the evening, we set off promptly for a super-fast dash to Staverton and back, bats skimming past as twilight fell. Back by 8.20 as planned, the early finish left time for a post-ride wander to Tesco and a Fawlty Towers video.
