Ride Reports
Computer games
With Michael back from hospital, the planned ride became a relaxed get-together at his place: hot drinks, good food and a friendly mix of computer games. The warm welcome home and easy conversation made a simple change of plan feel special.
Computer games
With Michael recovering from surgery, the planned evening ride became a computer‑games social, with hot drinks and unhurried conversation. A low‑key show of support, it was a night where fellowship took precedence over pedalling.
Holne
A sociable ride to Holne, dodging showers, centred on a welcome café stop. Michael followed in the car while recovering from surgery, and the return via Hembury Woods split the group as Lawrence and Ash took the slalom track and others stuck to the road.
Staverton
A relaxed evening led by Gavin took us up Green Lane to Abham and Staverton, with time for refreshments and a Frisbee in Staverton Park at sunset. A brief drama when Gavin mislaid his phone was calmly solved by Michael, supporting from the car, before a steady return via Colston road.
Badminton: Ashburton and computer games
With rain setting in, the group swapped the ride for badminton at Ashmoor; Dillan, playing Ash for the first time, found he was a capable player, and Michael, still recovering from surgery, could not run but still landed several winners.
Aish, South Brent
A good evening ride turned memorable when Gavin stopped to chat at Nurston and forgot the rest of us, so Michael phoned him from the top. Even starting late, Michael persuaded a detour down Lutton lane to South Brent, and we still reached home via Harbourneford for 9.20.
Dartington
A small detour through Dartington made the ride, taking in thatched lanes and the long‑standing mud house before a lunch at Cranks that surprised everyone with its quality. A £1 salad rescue and Frisbee at Staverton Play Park capped a cheerful morning.
Belford Mill
On a sunny evening, Michael Jones's first club ride since hospital set the tone, swapping car for bike at Peartree to join the lanes to Belford Mill. Answering a call to film 'ordinary' rides, he recorded the woodland sections before Gavin led the youngsters towards Holne Bridge.
Landscove
With the long-ride crowd still in bed, Michael marked his first full outing since hospital with a gentle run to the Hill House nursery. Soup, cakes and wildlife in the sunlit garden made a calm return, and he finished strong—set to be back on the bike each week.
Lambs Down
With no appetite for distance, we took a gentle climb from Cross Furzes onto the Abbots Way towards Water Oak Corner. The ride became a pause: Frisbee in the low sun among moorland grasses, before a direct roll home and the usual after-ride social at Crofters.
Holne
A gentle, sociable spin to Holne ended with a warm welcome at the Holne café, where exceptional coffee and soup set the tone. Back home the day rounded off with a relaxed social, watching Michael’s new Easter Tour videos before seeing Murray claim a second Wimbledon title.
Landscove
On a hot evening spin to Landscove, Pokémon GO stole the show: only George could catch anything, our O2 phones dead in the lanes. A locked-looking gate yielded to a chain link that opened, and tents on the green hinted at tomorrow’s fete as we looped home.
