Ride Reports
Sports evening: Ashburton
An easygoing sports evening that moved from trampolining at Crofters to basketball and badminton at Ashmoor, rounded off back at Crofters with a quick music quiz.
Holne
A day of sunshine and showers culminated in a warmly welcomed return to Holne café after its refurbishment. En route Ash coaxed George from his computer, and later he and Alastair ignored mud warnings to ride the Hembury slalom track, reappearing plastered with mud but pleased.
Games evening
Will and George made the most of their free Call of Duty trials, playing with Michael before a late‑arriving Ashley joined them; the evening ended with a music quiz.
Avon Dam
Sunshine and ice-creams framed a relaxed ride to Avon Dam that turned memorably eventful. George’s bid to reach a riverside rock ended with a soaking and borrowed shorts, and later Ash gashed his shin on a pedal and, racing for the car, suffered a blow-out, before the rest rounded off with games.
Games evening
After some indecision we stayed in for a low-key games night, trading controllers and testing our ears in music quizzes. A simple, shared choice that turned into easy laughter and friendly rivalry.
Landscove
With showers threatening, we turned a short ride into an impromptu exploration of hidden footpaths and tracks around Landscove. Early cakes at the Hillside garden centre, then shelter beneath an ancient tree as the rain came on, set the tone before a steady ride back.
Supermarket special
When ten-pin bowling fell through, we salvaged the day with a spontaneous Supermarket Special to a popular supermarket near Ivybridge, padded out by Callum finding a new computer game available as a free download.
Dartington
New member Dillan’s first ride in two years shaped the day: he dug in on the Colston Road climbs, mastered his gears and lifted the pace. A detour to the Cider Press brought bacon baps that baffled Michael, and George enjoyed it so much he’s now eyeing the summer tour.
Cinema: X-Men: Days of Future Past
We drove to Vue in Plymouth for the release-day screening of X-Men: Days of Future Past, pausing at Tesco Lee Mill to stock up on refreshments. A time-twisting tale that sends Wolverine back to avert a dystopian future, it ran later than usual but delivered spectacle and heart, and everyone went home delighted.
Holne
Marked by late arrivals yet lifted by friendly encounters, the ride rolled through Buckfast and Scoriton to Holne café for cake and Leo’s greeting, then back via Hembury Woods where Dillan discovered off‑road fun and only Ash and Lawrence braved the muddy slalom.
Supermarket special
A relaxed club night of computer games was lifted by Dillan’s call for an outing; we made a short trip to Tesco for discounted snacks and drinks, then returned to carry on and enjoy them.
Fermoys Garden Centre
Just John and Michael today: a thorn-induced puncture delayed the start, but they soon settled into a brisk pace and enjoyed a welcome stop at Fermoys garden centre, where the hardest choice was the cakes, before a swift return feeling well satisfied.
