Evening ride: Hembury
Sunny
6 Participants: Ash Freeman, Ryan Havinga, Michael Jones, Zac McGrath, Tom Pearson, Matt Porter (12, Buckfastleigh)
Our route this evening took us up the lower Hembury track and then up the hill to Humphrey's Cross on the main Hembury road. The youngsters played in the tree for a while. We then rode into Hembury and had some fun on the fort before taking the Slalom track down through the woods and home.

New member Matt was a bit slow today on his BMX but he loved the ride and plans to join us again.

Day ride (Car-assisted): Fingle Bridge
Bright and sunny
4 Participants: Ash Freeman, Michael Jones, Zac McGrath, Matt Porter
It was a bright sunny day and we were all hopeful of a great ride. Matt Porter joined us for his first Sunday ride and his second ever ride with us. Zac came along making four so we were able to do the car-assisted ride to Fingle that we had been hoping to do for weeks.

We took the car to Steps Bridge, unloaded the bikes and then set off through the delightful Cod Wood at 11.20. Bluebells spread out from the track as far as the eye could see. Matthew needed his crank tightening and his seat post clamping, but we still got to Fingle Bridge for around 12.20.

We ate our packed lunch in a picturesque setting by the river, then rode for fifteen minutes along the Fisherman’s path before returning to Fingle for drinks at the café. Neither the flapjacks nor the drinks were particularly tasty, tasting rather like the cheapest supermarket own brands.

We spent some time skimming stones, then some tried wading across the river but it turned out to be very cold and stony. We rode back along the riverside tracks to the car, leaving at 2.45 and reaching home by 3.15. Matt did really well on his first day ride and everyone had a fabulous day out.

10:15 - 14:00
Morning ride (Car-assisted): Plym Valley Cycleway
Dry
4 Participants: Ash Freeman, Michael Jones, Zac McGrath, Tom Pearson
We took the car to the B&Q car park at Plympton and rode all the way up the Plym Valley cycleway, stopping at the first viaduct to observe the Peregrine Falcons on the nearby cliffs from the provided binoculars – the birds were clearly visible today. When we returned the youngsters insisted we went to Pizza Hut to get take-away pizza before we returned home for 2pm.

Zac stayed for a games social after the ride, playing Call of Duty 4 with Michael and Ash.

10:15 - 12:30
Morning ride: Belford Mill
Sunny and warm
3 Participants: Ryan Havinga, Michael Jones, Zac McGrath
We saw loads of motorbikes on the back road to Ashburton this morning – maybe they were part of the rally that was taking place today.

We rode past Belford Mill and took the woodland track back to Ashburton, resting on the fallen tree for photographs. We concluded an enjoyable ride by taking the scenic Terrace Walk and then returning along the old road by 12.30.
Sunday 21 June 2009
10:15 - 12:30
Morning ride: Chalk Ford
Dry
3 Participants: Ash Freeman, Ryan Havinga, Michael Jones
Ash was at home for a while this morning for Father’s Day, but he met Ryan and Michael at Cross Furzes at 11.10 and then joined us for a fast ride over the moor from Lud Gate to Chalk Ford. On the way down we saw around ten deer in the deer park.

After photos near the footbridge at Chalk Ford we took the stony track to Scoriton and then the lanes home via Hawson Court.
Friday 3 July 2009
19:00 - 21:32
Evening ride: Hembury

3 Participants: Ash Freeman, Ryan Havinga, Michael Jones
A short ride that explored the many tracks in Hembury Woods turned into a late return when Ash remembered, half-way home, that he had left his watch by the river. At least they had enjoyed the stone skimming and paddling in the cool waters of the Dart.
Friday 10 July 2009
19:00 - 21:45
Evening ride: Landscove

3 Participants: Ash Freeman, Ryan Havinga, Michael Jones
Our ride started with Green Lane and the descent across the fields to Landscove - always great fun, although the gates that have to be opened and closed on the way down can be annoying.

At Landscove we went to spend a little time in the play park and were quickly joined by two local lads, Dylan and Ashley, who showed us their swing backflip skills. Ryan knew one of them from five years ago but it took him several minutes before he properly recognised him.

We got back to Buckfastleigh a little later than usual.
Sunday 12 July 2009
10:15 - 14:00
Morning ride: Dartington
Mainly dry, some showers
3 Participants: Ash Freeman, Ryan Havinga, Michael Jones
Ash was complaining of sore knees as we rode out along Colston road, but once we took to the cycle path at Riverford Bridge he was fine, very much enjoying the fun descent down the new stretch of path.

We had refreshments at Cranks restaurant at the Cider Press Centre in Dartington, then browsed around the Tridias Toy Shop for half an hour before moving on to the "healthy" sweet shop. It’s a great place to spend some time and we all really enjoyed our visit.

For our return journey we took the descent to Staverton Bridge and headed through the lanes past Abham.
Sunday 2 August 2009
10:15 - 13:15
Morning ride: Spitchwick
Sunny
2 Participants: Ryan Havinga, Michael Jones
On a glorious summer's morning we enjoyed an excellent ride through Hembury to Spitchwick. We returned the long way via the steep hill through the woods to Buckland and then down Ausewell hill to Ashburton
Sunday 20 September 2009
10:15 - 13:20
Morning ride: Avon Dam
Sunny
4 Participants: Ash Freeman, Callum Freeman, Ryan Havinga, Michael Jones
Michael's "Mystery Ride" was not a total mystery to Ashley, and he really didn't think his sore arm would cope with the rough descent across the moor. Nevertheless once we had climbed up Dean hill and on to Bloody Pool he decided to give it a go. The radio-controlled plane enthusiasts were out again today.

The fine weather had drawn hundreds of people to Shipley Bridge, making cycling past them a little more difficult than usual. Eventually we got to the Avon dam however and settled on its tranquil banks for a chocolate break. A dog dived into the reservoir for a swim while we lay there: we didn't like the idea considering this was our drinking water, but there were no signs around so we couldn't really complain. Hopefully the filtration plant will do its job properly!

Neither Ryan nor Callum had ever ridden the moorland track behind the dam and they were totally stunned by the view from the top of the hill - it is possible to see all the way from Teignmouth to Paignton and beyond from there. And of course they thought the track descent to Cross Furzes along the Abbots Way was "awesome", both of them going on about it long after we had reached home.
