In view of the bad weather, Alex and Ben suggested a visit to Crowdy Mill near Harbertonford. We were treated to hot soup and freshly-made bread and vowed to return again. The staff allowed a batch of bread to burn while they were attending to our various needs, so we made ourselves scarce, returning home via Dartington and Rattery.

Those who turned up preferred a slide show, so a slide show is what they got. (Actually Michael got the dates wrong and put on the slide show a fortnight too early, but nobody else seemed to notice the mistake)

This moorland excursion is always a pleasure, particularly when we return from the reservoir using the steep track descent to Michelcombe.

The wardens put on the traditional firework display at the hostel tonight.

Michael hadn't been particularly active with his camera recently, but there were enough slides of the two 1992 junior tours to keep people happy this evening - at least, those who hadn't seen the slide show at the previous social!

A brisk morning-only ride took us to Diptford via Rattery and home via Avonwick and Marley Head.

The forecast assured us that conditions would improve by afternoon, so ten of us braved the weather and rode to Lustleigh to say good-bye to the proprietor. We then chose to return via Haytor, and found an interesting new bridleway which turned out to be rather steep and muddy in places - good fun the other way I should imagine.

By the time we reached the top the headwind was devastating and Seb had delayed us with a puncture, so we diverted to the lower lane route from Birchanger to Halshanger and home through Ashburton. This really was a miserable end to the ride, but we were at least pleased to have got some exercise in spite of the weather.

Absolutely nobody turned up except Michael, Neil and Richard - which means there'll be no more Southpark socials this season! We managed to avoid a bill for the hire of the hall, however.
