6 Participants: Harry Back, Ziggy Clark, Dillan Edwards, Michael Jones, George Rogers, Mark Thomas
With six taking part in our badminton session once again and everyone's standard improving week by week we had an excellent series of games this evening that ended with Dillan, Mark and Harry all achieving four wins out of five. We used points to distinguish between them, but as Dillan and Mark both had 102 points and there was no time to play a tie-break game we had to declare the two of them joint winners this evening, with Harry only one point behind with 101 points. Well done everyone.

Sunday 2 December 2018
10:15 - 12:00
Morning ride: Buckfast
5 miles (▲ 160m)
3 Participants: Dillan Edwards, Michael Jones, Jude Norris
It was hard to get our teenagers excited about a ride this morning, partly because of the light drizzle in the air. We headed towards Holne but before we had got to Hawson Court there was a vote to visit .. The Grange café at Buckfast! Michael is not one to impose rides on the members that do not meet with their approval, so we rode down to Buckfast and discovered just how expensive a café can be.

Michael picked two of the smallest cakes he could find –flapjacks wrapped in clingfilm – from an unlabelled display box, but when he reached the checkout he was told they were £2.95 each! The checkout assistant justified this by saying you have to pay more for gluten-free, to which Michael replied that he loves gluten and would have happily paid less to have it left in! Dillan and Michael shared a single flapjack between them in protest - which came to around two mouthfuls each! Still, we had a nice chat on a damp morning.

We returned home via Grange Road for 12.00 and enjoyed computer games at Crofters until Jude left at 2pm.

Friday 30 November 2018

Social: Badminton
6 Participants: Will Bastow, Dillan Edwards, Michael Jones, Jude Norris, George Rogers, Mark Thomas
Michael decided he couldn’t afford to sit around for up to a year while his tennis elbow sorted itself out, so he joined in the tournament this evening by playing left-handed! He wasn’t able to offer much of a challenge to the other players, but he gradually improved as the evening wore on and managed to score quite a few points off his right-handed opponents.

All in all, it was a great evening, with Dillan ending up first, Jude second and George third.

Sunday 25 November 2018
10:15 - 14:45
Day ride: Fermoys, Ipplepen
Cloudy and chilly (7°C)
19 miles (▲ 390m)
3 Participants: Dillan Edwards, Michael Jones, John Rogers
Jude was unwell today, but John arrived in time for a pre-ride coffee before we set off at 10.45 for our ride through Staverton and Fishacre Barton to Ipplepen. Jude, who is a co-op member and proud of it, welcomed the opportunity to look into the Ipplepen branch, which turned out to be a bit smaller than Buckfastleigh. We bought some blueberries and then proceeded to our planned destination, Fermoys Garden Centre, for 12:25.

We were quite hungry so two of us bought the medium-sized vegetarian nut roast dinner in the café for £7.95 which turned out to be surprisingly good. John enjoyed toasted sandwiches, and we are pleased to report that the service was much faster than we experienced on our last visit.

After a browse around the many Christmas treats on sale in the shop area, we headed home via Two Mile Oak and Denbury.

Three games enabled the four of us to play everyone else in our Round Robin tournament. Dillan ended up winning all his games this evening.

Sunday 18 November 2018
10:15 - 12:30
Morning ride: Dartington
Dry with sunny spells
12 miles (▲ 222m)
2 Participants: Dillan Edwards, Michael Jones
With Jude unwell, only two of us set off from Buckfastleigh at 10:15, taking Colston Road and the cycle path to the shops at Dartington.

The Venus cafe closed a few months ago, and to fill the gap the Dartington organisers had set up a new, temporary cafe in the same premises. It seemed similar in some ways to the Venus, although the cakes seemed a little less varied. We enjoyed some excellent coffee and a teacake however, warming ourselves nicely from the chill November air outside.

After some self-timer photos outside on the picnic tables we returned via Staverton Bridge and Caddaford.
