Camping Trip 2

Tour 18 Aug–29 Aug 1986

Scottish Highlands and Islands 12

A whirlwind of mishaps and magic marked this Scottish cycling adventure. It all began with a frenzied ticket-buying escapade that nearly derailed the tour before it started. The journey was peppered with quirky characters, from a ticket clerk who faced a Fat Controller's glare to an old fisherman offering impromptu boat rides. Ben Nevis presented a soggy challenge, but the summit's desolate beauty made the climb worthwhile. Amidst stunning scenery, calamities abounded: a cascade of sickness swept through the group, leaving some stranded roadside and others in isolation dorms. Yet, camaraderie flourished, especially when a local doctor, reminiscent of Dr Finlay, came to the rescue. As the tour wound down, the cyclists' spirits remained undampened, buoyed by the promise of future escapades.
